ROSSI LEMENI ZEANI GRILLI MEFISTOFELE complete Prison Scene Act III. On February 20, 1968 the first of four performances of MEFISTOFELE [Arrigo Boito] was given at Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste: Nicola Rossi Lemeni (Mefistofele), Virginia Zeani (Margherita), Umberto Grilli (Faust) with orchestra and chorus conducted by Nino Verchi. Portions of the first performance were recorded, including the complete Prison Scene from Act III which contains the celebrated L'altra notte in fondo al mare; Lontano, lontano duet; Sorge il di and Spunta...l'aurora pallida (Margherita's death).
