During her adolescence, Namajunas earned a black belt in karate and taekwondo, along with a blue belt in jiu-jitsu. Namajunas’ amateur MMA career began in 2010, racking up a perfect record of 4-0 with two TKOs and two Unanimous Decisions. Namajunas excelled during her time on TUF 20, ultimately competing against Carla Esparza at The Ultimate Fighter: A Champion Will Be Crowned Finale on Dec. 12, 2014. Unfortunately, Namajunas lost the fight after being submitted via rear-naked choke in the third round. Namajunas returned to the octagon on Oct. 3, 2015 to battle the dangerous striker, Angela Hill. She went on to defeat Hill following a first-round, standing rear-naked choke. The impressive move for the victory is only the third standing rear-naked choke in the history of the UFC. On Dec. 10, 2015, Namajunas faced Paige VanZant and dominated her opponent by out-striking and landing eight takedowns, before executing a rear-naked choke for the win.
