Uji City (宇治市) is located south of Kyoto Prefecture and about an half hour train ride from the JR Kyoto Station. I compare Uji City with the Arashiyama district in Kyoto, in terms of romanticism and historical importance. Uji city also contains many beautiful temples and shrines that are recognized as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites. This city is serviced by both JR Nara Line and the Keihan Electric Railway.
One of the most important association of the Uji city is with the last ten chapters of the Heian era (11th century) classic novel "Tale of Genji" (源氏物語) called Uji Chapters. This novel was written by Murasaki Shikibu. If you happen to read the novel, you can associate many Uji Chapter references with the sights in this video.
Hope you enjoy it.
