In the year 1905, in London, England, Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis founded a brand that was not, originally, called Rolex. Rather, the duo started out buying parts, assembling them, and then selling them to jewelers, who would then put their own branding on the dials. Eventually, Hans came up with the name "Rolex," for...some reason. There are a few theories, but nothing certain. Among their first major innovations, in 1926 the brand released the first "water-proof" (read: water-resistant) watch, which became known as the Oyster Case. They have also produced COSC certified Swiss Chronometers since nearly the very beginning, and have remained a sign of that level of quality, precision, and durability ever since.
