Roland Szentpali: Tuba Concerto, Movement 1

Derek Fenstermacher, tuba Baris Buyukyildirim, piano This live video features music from my Master's Tuba Recital that occurred at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009 in Watson Recital Hall at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. The piece featured here is the first movement of Roland Szentpali's Tuba Concerto. I first heard this piece almost a year earlier played by Mr. Szentpali himself at ITEC 2008 in Cincinnati. I fell in love with the piece immediately and knew that I was going to feature it on my next recital. The piece itself was quite a challenge to work up, but also a lot of fun. You can certainly hear his Hungarian and jazz influences throughout the work! A big thanks should also be given to Baris Buyukyildirim, whose immense talent contributed greatly to the performance!
