DOWNEY'S WALK RED CARPET FOR TIFF OPENER WITH BABY IN TOW Robert Downey Jr. and wife Susan walked the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival Thursday (5 September 2014) for the world premiere of their latest film, "The Judge." The couple were honored that their film would play at the festival, but when they found out it would open the TIFF, they were elated. "We're super excited about coming to the festival, then when we learned we were going to open the festival. I think it's the perfect kind of audience for the film that we made," Susan Downey said. She's one of the producers on the films, and has collaborated with her husband on numerous films including "Iron Man 2," and the "Sherlock Holmes." Downey spoke of his wife's success as a producer before working together. "When I was kind of looking for jobs and she had a really solid, steady one, she'd bring home trailers for movies they were doing and scenes they were working on that I wasn't asked to be in. It kind of became this catnip, oddball creative foreplay. I'd say, 'Let me take a look at that...I bet I could write better lines for her and then when 'Sherlock' came around we did a lot of the creative side of it together, she's an extremely creative producer. And then on this, literally developed it with (David) Dobkin out of thin air, you know, Downey said." The couple are expecting their second child and were thrilled to talk about it. "Oh well, you know, she'll be around in the next couple of months," Susan said. Then she added: "This is her first red carpet, she's very happy right now. She's mellow. Maybe I'm just really happy." The film also stars Vera Farmiga, who loves being at this festival. "It's Toronto, it's the city, it's the backdrop, it's the people, it's a constituents. Look all film festivals are a chance to celebrate and to redefine what is important in cinema. This is one of the premiere festivals of the world, but to me, I have some very romantic associations because some of my favorite films have premiered here," Farmiga said. The film tells the story of a big city lawyer played by Downey that returns to his childhood home where his father, the town judge, is accused of murder. Legendary actor Robert Duvall plays the father, and he was reluctant to take the role, at least at first. "At first, I wasn't sure. It's a very complex guy. He's got a lot of negative, deep problems, feelings and so forth, but once I was decided and everything came to be I had to just dive in and do it on a daily basis," Duvall said, The film opens in US theaters on October 10.
