At the beginning, I play a syncopated bassline which makes the riff a bit heavy and as soon as I change the picking and play a steady quarter bassline, it kind of opens up and gets going. So at the beginning I play the following picking scheme on the G, B and E string. Fret your ring finger on the 4th fret, G string, middle finger on the 3rd fret, B string and your index finger on the 2nd fret E string. Now pick G, B, G, E and in the second half lift off your index finger to play the open E string. Then add the Bass on the 3rd fret low E string that you fret with your thumb over the neck followed by the open E string. Play the bass always on the 1 The 2+ and the 4. In bar number 3 use your index finger to fret the high E and the A string on the 2nd fret. When you play the open high E string lift your finger only partly off the strings like this. And finally play the open A as bass.
