Resident Evil 2 Remake w/ 3D spatial sound ? (Dolby Atmos HRTF)

At long last, it's the game you've been waiting for this Halloween month 2019. Resident Evil 2 Remake, the breakout binaural audio star of 2019. Whereas Resident Evil 7 experimented with HRTF in a DLC released a year after its initial release, Resident Evil 2 Remake was designed with 3D positional audio from the very start. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the first boss battle, which envelops you in a full 360 degrees of terrifying screams and nerve-wracking steam. However, while RE7 used a proprietary software (Yamaha ViReal), RE2 is reliant on the Windows Spatial Audio API that's exclusive to Windows 10. Put simply: if you're still on Windows 7 or 8, you won't be getting the true RE2 experience. Of the three plugins available to choose from so far, Dolby Atmos for Headphones is by far the best option. Compared to the directionless audio of Overwatch's Dolby Atmos implementation, RE2 provides an adequate sound environment. Not a patch on OpenAL Soft or Aureal A3D 2.0, but still the best of a bad lot. Definitely worth the $15 USD upgrade over the stock Windows Sonic HRTF...though I'd advise taking advantage of the 30-day free trial if you can. Not as many games support this API as you think.
