Working to solve the issues of Ashland youth, Hilary Bass and the youth of Ashland's work culminated into a state of the art Youth Center. http://ashlandyouthcenterproject.org/
The mission of REACH, Ashland Youth Center is to honor youth power and build community resilience by creating a culture and place of safety, belonging, and possibility to promote equity and happiness for Ashland youth and families.
The REACH, Ashland Youth Center is a 31,500 sq. ft. landmark co-located on the Ashland Youth Complex. In total the Ashland Youth Complex comprises 13.25 acres of a recycled brown-field dedicated to healthy youth development. The complex houses the REACH facility, the first community park in Ashland built and maintained by Hayward Area Recreation and Park District, and a multi-use gymnasium and sports field at the adjacent Edendale Middle School. Together, these developments represent significant joint use opportunities that include after-hour access to the school fields and greater access and participation in REACH services and programs.
A major part of the complex will operate a health clinic, media studio, dance studio, fitness room, library, outdoor amphitheater, computer lab, employment center, and library; classrooms to provide educational, vocational, and artistic activities; an infant and toddler center; and an on site cafe that will train and employ Ashland youth.
