At first, the elevators at at Friedrichstraße railway station shown in this video may be mistaken for traction elevators. They have steel cables attached to the top of the cab, which do go to a counterweight. But there is no traction motor. Instead, the counterweight is pulled down by a hydraulic piston. In order to make room for the piston, the cables are not attached to the counterweight but diverted to the shaft top. Thus, the counterweight moves half as fast as the cab.
