Here are a few clips from our story about the Iowa Interstate doubleheader in October 2008. IAIS ran the steam specials through eastern Iowa to Rock Island, IL to raise money for Iowa communities impacted by severe flooding earlier that year.
First we followed the doubleheaded freight train from Iowa City to the Quad Cities. This train set a new record for steam hauled revenue tonnage for the 21st century, pulling 66 freight cars. At Rock Island, the locomotives were separated, one to pull passenger trips east to Silvis, Illinois, and the other for trips west to Walcott, Iowa.
The next day another doubleheader brought the passenger equipment west to Iowa City. We present the story of the weekend's events on our DVD "Steam Specials in the Heartland".
