Today we are exploring the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer. The Explorer has undergone a couple of iterations in its earlier age, ranging from varying sizes and dials. The 1016 reference was in production from the late 1950s to 1988. The iteration seen here was in production from 1988 to 2010. Across the broad of the case this piece measures 36mm. At 11mm thick with a sloped sapphire and conical bezel, this piece easily fits underneath a tight dress cuff. From lug to lug, the watch measures 44mm.
A 78790 bracelet without solid end links makes this piece wear very similar to a vintage Rolex. Although it has the look and feel of a vintage piece, it is a rather contemporary piece and service is still readily available at Rolex authorized dealers. A clamshell style oyster clasp and single-fold deployment buckle finish the watch. The clasp features date and style stampings.
This piece is in excellent condition and features contrast between polish and satin finishes. The dial is in superluminova and laser etched Rolex crown. Inside, a caliber 3000 is used and is a COSC Swiss chronometer. The caliber and solid caseback endow the watch with a 40-45 hour power reserve and 100m water resistance.
