Pokemon GO Update: Gen 2 Baby Pokemon and eggs NOW LIVE alongside Christmas event Pokemon GO today announced that the beginning of Gen 2 Pokemon. Granted, it wasn't the full 100 many were expected but it starts with several baby Pokemon who will start hatching from eggs as of today. “Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games,” PokemonGO developers Niantic Labs said in a statement released today. The trailer released alongside the announcement primarily showed off Pichu and Togepi, but several more baby Pokemon have already been hatched in the game from eager Pokemon GO players who couldn't wait to get started. From what we can gather this new generation of Pokemon will only be available in eggs, meaning trainers will have to wrap up warm if they want to head outside and walk those kms to hatch these new species. Already Twitter users have posted pictures of baby Pokemon like igglybuff and Cleffa, who have both hatched from 2KM eggs. Although it's worth noting that because the game already decides what Pokemon you get in an egg the moment you receive it, you won't get any nice surprises in any eggs you were already holding when this update dropped earlier today. In short, hatch as many eggs as you can ASAP so you can get some new eggs, hopefully containing these new baby Pokemon. Equally, The Silph Road have noticed that the moment you acquire one of the baby Pokemon your Pokedex should expand from the game's initial 149 (see below). It's also been noticed that should you choose to have one of these baby Pokemon set as your buddy, they won't stand by your side, but instead will be held by your personal avatar in the game. For now there's plenty to focus on with the baby Pokemon, but Niantic Labs also mentioned in the update that These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months. So we should expect to see more Gen 2 Pokemon in the new year.
