Part 1: It was a beautiful Spring day to hike the Pine Mountain Cooper's Furnace Trail in Cartersville, Georgia. I parked at the Spur 20 Pine Mountain Trailhead and took the Connector Trail to the Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area. The park can be reached by vehicle by taking Highway 41 South from Highway 113 in Cartersville. Travel approximately one mile and take a left onto River Road. River Road will take you to the park. The information I shared about Cooper's Furnace can be found at the following links: http://www.visitcartersvillega.org/na/Cooper's_Furnace_Day_Use_Area http://www.roadsidegeorgia.com/site/cooperiron.html Part 2: From the Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area I hiked up to the overlook for the Allatoona Lake Dam. This is a dam of the Etowah River constructed and operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. From the overlook I hiked along the Laurel Ridge Trail (the Mountain Laurel was beginning to bloom) back to the Pine Mountain Connector Trail for my return to the trailhead.
