The National Chairman of opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Uche Secondus is giving voice to his party's position on the invasion of the Senate Chamber by some suspected thugs who made away with the mace that was later recovered by the Police in Abuja on Wednesday. The PDP reacted to the development in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan describing it as a direct assault on the legislature and an attempt to truncate Nigeria's democracy. The party also said the development was emboldened by "series of interference and direct attacks by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Buhari Presidency on the institution of the National Assembly, particularly, the Senate." Taking a cue from that, Mr Secondus who spoke to reporters in Akure, Ondo State, said the invasion of the Red Chambers is an indication that Nigeria is broken and needs rescue, a task which he said his party is ready to undertake.
