'기생충' 아카데미 각본상 수상...아시아 최초
South Korean film 'Parasite' makes history once again.
It wins the Original Screenplay Oscar at the 92nd Academy Awards,... taking place in Hollywood as we speak.
And for more from the Oscars... we have our Kan Hyeong-woo on the line for us.
Hyeong-woo, what an exciting news we have
Yes, Ji-yoon. Bong Joon-ho's black comedy 'Parasite' made history about an hour-and-a-half ago by winning South Korea's first ever Oscar.
As you mentioned, the film took home the Original Screenplay honor at the ceremony in Los Angeles.
It became not only the first South Korean film to win the category in the 92-year-long history of the Academy Awards, but also the first Asian movie to win Original Screenplay.
Upon receiving the award,... the film's director Bong Joon-ho said writing scripts is a lonely process and he does not write to represent his country.
"But this is very first Oscar to South Korea. Thank you."
Co-writer Han Jin-won said he'd like to share the honor with all the filmmakers and storytellers in Chungmu-ro - which he described as South Korea's Hollywood.
But 'Parasite' missed out on the best Production Design award and Film Editing...with 'Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood' taking the former honor and 'Ford versus Ferrari' claiming the latter.
Now there are three more categories left for 'Parasite'.
What are they and what are the chances for more Oscars?
We now have four more possible trophies left - Best Picture, Best Director, Film Editing and International Feature Film.
Many media outlets predict 'Parasite' will win the Oscar for International Feature Film after it took home the Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes in January.
Some even say Bong's film could claim even top honors.
The Associated Press said that, by winning the best ensemble from the Screen Actors Guild, 'Parasite' has the most important vote in the actors who make up the largest percentage of the film academy that determine the winners of the Oscars.
The Guardian said Bong's "tragicomic thriller is the dark horse of this year's Oscars race" and "classical film-making at its best" so it should win Best Picture.
Movie fans will closely be watching the awards ceremony to see if 'Parasite' can the first non-English language film to win the big one, Best Picture.
Meanwhile, South Korea's another film 'In the Absence' - a 29-minute-long documentary about the tragic 2014 Sewol-ho Ferry sinking - earned the country's first Oscar nomination in the category of 'Best Documentary Short Subject', but it came up short on winning the award.
That's all from me for now, but I will bring you the latest results in our later newscast.
