https://dtcuk.co/ The Parallel Park or the Reverse Park as it's sometimes called it the most dreaded manoeuvre in the driving test. However, it is a lot easier than many will have you believe.
Many learner drivers worry unnecessarily about this exercise. They are usually afraid that the driving examiner may give them a small space in which to park the car. The driving examiner cannot and will not give you small space to park the car.
They will give you enough room to park two cars.
During this exercise, the driving examiner will be marking for you for 2 things. The first is the control and the second is observations.
Get them both correct and you will pass on this section of the driving test.
Control of the car basically means to park close and parallel to the kerb using no more than 2 car lengths. How you do this is irrelevant.
Some learners get confused on which way to steer and how much to steer. As far as which way to steering is concerned you should steer in the direction that you want the back of the car to go.
As far as how much to steer is concerned. The less space you want parking the more you need to steer. However, the driving examiner will give you plenty of room steering you do is relevant.
Many of the learners that fail on the parallel park, do so because their speed is too fast, so they don’t have enough control. You should drive at crawling speed. The slower the better.
If you were to touch the kerb at crawling speed, it would only be a touch and you would not fail the test. However, any faster, the touch will become a hit.
The driving examiner will also be marking you on observations.
Start off by looking all around, then make the observation before steering. Anytime you need to make adjustment s to steering stop and look around again.
If you see anything that moves, stop and re assess. If they remain stopped you may carry. However if they start moving, you must stop.
