Papillon Helicopters is one if not the largest companies to provide Grand Canyon air tours. The Las Vegas-based company flies from The Strip and Boulder City to the West Rim. South Rim helicopter tours depart from Papillon's terminal at Grand Canyon Airport in Tusayan, AZ. Papillon uses a mix of Bell Ranger and EcoStar 130 helicopters. The former are primarily used on air tours from Boulder and Tusayan while the EcoStar is used on deluxe flights from both departure points. Las Vegas From Vegas you get to choose from air and landing tours to the West Rim. Both follow the same flight plan to the Canyon: Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Grand Cliff's Wash, Colorado River and the Canyon. The air tour will turn back at the Grand Canyon Skywalk while the landing tours go to the top and bottom. The most popular landing tour goes to the bottom for a Champagne Picnic. There's another that lands on the top and lets you do the Skywalk. Then there's the ultimate one that does top, bottom, boat and Skywalk. It truly is a tremendous trip and by the time you're finished you've seen everything. The company offers a host of South Rim helicopters, ranging from 30-minute and 50-minute flights to trips that come with sunset Jeep tours and motorcycle rides. Papillon's basic helicopter tours use the standard Bell Ranger while the deluxe goes with the EcoStar 130. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Papillon's deluxe flights from both rims. I think you get a better experience (and a better deal) and if the case of Las Vegas Strip departures you get picked up and dropped off at your hotel in a stretch limousine.
