Textbook affordability is a significant issue for students. A variety of University of Alberta initiatives are underway that aim to address this issue - from using OERs as an alternative to expensive textbooks to implementing a course textbook lending program. This panel brings together student, librarian, faculty, and departmental perspectives on UAlberta initiatives that challenge the traditional textbook model for university courses. Presenters will discuss a variety of efforts to open up course textbooks, address some of the barriers associated with this work, and provide practical insights into integrating OERs into courses.
