More than one hundred people were pulled alive from the ruins. The death toll has been lowered from an earlier estimate of 51 to 24... after officials miscounted the number of bodies. Connie Lee has more. A day after the massive twister ripped through this Oklahoma City suburb, rescuers searched through buildings and debris looking for survivors. Officials say emergency workers pulled more than 100 people out of the ruins but at least 24 people have been confirmed dead and more than 200 injured. At least nine children were among those that lost their lives as the tornado destroyed two local schools. Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin reassured residents the state would recover. "It's been a very trying couple of days for the state of Oklahoma. It's a sad time for us because we have experienced one of our most horrific storms and disasters that this state has ever faced... We will get through this, we will overcome, we will rebuild and we will regain our strength." The tornado was ranked as an EF5, the strongest category of tornado. It was 3-kilometers wide... and it flattened houses and tossed vehicles into the air as if they were pieces of paper. Rescue workers continued the search even as thunder and lightning crashed around them. They are urging residents to stay away from the worst hit areas until search efforts come to an end. President Barack Obama has declared the city a major disaster area... and ordered federal aid to supplement local and state recovery efforts. . This isn't the first time a deadly tornado has swept through the Oklahoma City region--- the area was directly hit by powerful tornadoes in 1999 and 2003. Connie Lee, Arirang News.
