It was written because Oldfield's grandfather suffered from trauma relating to World War I. Hideo Kojima used the song for the E3 2014 trailer of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain because listening to the lyrics instantly had him think of Big Boss, having gotten Man on the Rocks a few months prior. It was also included in the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Collector's Disc.
