North Korean troops have breached the inter-Korean armistice line at least five times this year as part of infiltration training. A South Korean military official, who asked not to be named, says the drills, ordered by leader Kim Jong-un, are designed to prepare for surprise attacks inside the Demilitarized Zone. Most of the violations have come at night and resulted in South Korean troops firing warning shots,... sending them back north of the border. The most recent breach came in mid-June,... when three North Korean troops got as close as 600 meters away from a general outpost in the city of Paju, just north of Seoul,... where they broke a bell that had been set up for North Koreans hoping to defect. The recent cases have prompted the South Korean military to reassess its border defenses, and the United Nations Command to send a notice to the North, urging it to stop the border violations.
