Nikko Toshogu Shrine is part of the Nikko UNESCO World Heritage Temples and Shrines. It is located in the Nikko district in Tochigi prefecture, Japan. Nikko Toshogu Shrine is dedicated to the First Tokugawa of Japan, Ieyasu Tokugawa. He is responsible for unifying Japan, when there were many civil wars within the country. The shrine itself was built by his son Hidetada Tokugawa. The extravagant gates, bell towers, lanterns and the main hall, were an excellent example of Edo period artistry. It is said that the Shrine cost around 250 million US dollars to in today's currency to build. Enjoy!!!
