I'm Neil Maisel. I'm a Partner here at Crowe Soberman LLP in the Valuations | Forensics | Litigation Group. I've been an Accountant for 38 years and for the last 30 years, my practice has been focused on Valuations, Forensics and Litigation.
How did you first hear about Crowe Soberman?
I first came to, what was then, Soberman Isenbaum & Colomby in 1983. I left the firm and I joined a small boutique Business Valuation firm, got my Chartered Business Valuation degree, my CBV and then, in 1996, I came back and joined Soberman Isenbaum & Colomby as a Partner in the Valuations | Forensics | Litigation Group.
What makes your job unique?
I get involved when there's some form of financial component to some Forensic work, Valuation work or Litigation work. For example, if there is a shareholder dispute and one shareholder wants to buy out the other shareholder, they would come to me to establish a value of the business for purposes of the buyout. If there's a matrimonial matter, that needs either an income determination or a valuation of assets, a valuation of the business or some forensic work, it would come to somebody like myself. I'm the specialist. That's why our team's work is different than regular accounting work.
What can clients expect you to deliver?
When a client retains me and retains our group, they can expect a very high quality product, delivered in a professional manner, which is delivered in an independent manner, where people will look at the product and not say, “Oh, you were a hired gun. You came up with that number because that's the number your client wanted you to come up with.” They will be able to be very proud, as we are proud of the work that we do.
