Performance 7 July 2018.
Namibian Tales was founded by Sjahin During & Shishani.
Amsterdam based musician Shishani, member of the band Namibian Tales, travelled to Namibia to make music with musicians from the Kalahari desert.
The result is a remarkable piece of music, 'Kalahari Encounters' which they are going to perform live with four of the Kalahari elder ladies who still know to clap and sing in the very ancient and disappearing traditions of their people.
With 'Kalahari Encounters' Namibian Tales not only pay homage to the unique cultural heritage of the San – often referred to as Bushmen – but also enter into a musical dialogue with these people, who have lived in present day Namibia and its surrounding countries since time immemorial.
The four San ladies will be accompanied by the group Namibian Tales, performing as an acoustic quintet, using the instruments cello, kora, guitar, mbira, bass and percussion.
This is a once in a lifetime project. The four ladies agreed to do this once only for two weeks. With the financial support of UNESCO, they flew to Europe for the first time and will perform on many stages in Europe.
All music traditional, arragements and compositions by Sjahin During & Shishani.
