Mulching your garden is very important to prevent water evaporation, and keeping plant roots cool and moist. There are many types of mulch from wood chips, to pine needles and leaves. I have started using coconut coir as a green way to mulch my gardens. Coconut coir is the crushed outer shell of the coconut and is a good replacement for peat moss. Peat moss is not a renewable resource, but coconut coir is. Cocunut coir retains water in a comparable way to peat moss and will help reduce water evaporation and will make waterings less frequent. The less frequent waterings to your organic garden will help you to conserve water, another precious resource. Coconut coir can be used as a mulch, or other types of mulching, help to keep soil/dirt moist. Consider mulching your beds with coconut coir.
