Here's my recording from several years ago of Piano Concerto No.20 in D minor K.466 mov.1 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart transcribed for solo piano by Charles-Valentin Alkan. I genuinely believe this is one of the most successful transcriptions of any piano concerto for solo piano. However, please do not use this transcription for any reference purposes: Alkan copied copyist's errors, had to change some notes out of necessity, and even made small embellishments throughout the piece. So there are a few notable differences from the original concerto.
I made some slips here and there (it is incredibly difficult to play like the pianist who made the wonderful ptna recording) but I'm quite satisfied with the overall flow of the piece. If you want sheet music for this cadenza, feel free to message me. I'm relearning it now and hopefully make a better recording this sumer or next summer.
How did I change the tone of the piano to distinguish different instruments?
- I used several different depths of left and right pedals, giving me a lot of different tones to work with.
