But in the ensuing battle, the human soul of Akira remains powerful and he transforms into Devilman. Though the battle is intense, Akira eventually gains the upper hand and takes his sexual frustrations out on Silene by having sex with her mid flight. Kaim, a powerful demon and Silene's partner, stops the fight by striking both Devilman and Silene with lightning. Humiliated, Silene vows vengeance but is too injured to continue. Kaim, who is in love with Silene, offers to merge with Silene so that she can use his power to finish off Devilman, killing himself in the process. Though she nearly kills him, the merging drives her mad and she flees. Ryo eventually finds Akira and helps him outside, finding that Silene had died thinking she had won. Akira then ponders if the demons are capable of love.
