Moses and the burning bush(Put off thy shoes, but why?)

Moses and the burning bush is an incredible encounter where Moses comes into the presence of God, but God requires one thing first...put thy sandals from off thy feet for the place you stand is holy ground. Ive always wondered what Moses taking his shoes off had to do with being in the presence of God. Should we take our shoes off during worship at church? Does God have something against shoes?
