The famous Phra Prang Sam Yod, in Lop Buri is a landmark that is instantly recognisable to any Thai, itself no mean feat in a country littered with distinctive ancient landmarks. Lop Buri is famous for its monkeys and they swam around and over the iconic Prang Sam Yod, originally a Hindu shine that has three towers to symbolise the Hindu trinity, but which was later converted to a Buddhist temple. The monkeys are all around the ruined temple which sits in a grass compound. It's a superb picture and it makes you feel you have been transported straight onto an India Jones set, except that the temple is made of stone, not cardboard. The monkeys are certainly not shy, and signs warn visitors to keep a tight hold onto their possessions. The monkeys aren't bothered by the rush of traffic either, scuttling across the busy roads just like any hurrying Lop Buri resident and they clamber over the buildings, with many a smashed glass pane bearing testimony to their presence.
