Sadly, these routines also prevent us from seeing the true magic in the world and blind us during opportunities to make a difference. Thankfully, one young mother and her son had their eyes open when they went through a drive-thru line one afternoon. All they wanted to do was munch on some tasty chicken sandwiches - but then they noticed something important about the car in front of them. Instead of ignoring the message, Tara Routzong and her son Landon got up and did something about it! Tara and little Landon were waiting in line at the local Chick-fil-A when a small detail on the car in front of them caught their eye. It was a piece of information which immediately sent them both into action! The license plate on the car displayed the word "Florida" on it. While it may not seem like anything noteworthy to us, Tara and Landon were heartbroken when they realized where the gentleman in front of them was from... This happened right after Hurricane Irma powered through the Caribbean and slammed into the state of Florida. The destructive force of Irma destroyed homes, communities, and lives. That's why Tara and Landon decided to do something kind when they noticed the Florida license plate before them. Tara shared what happened next on her Facebook page: "[Landon and I] went to Chick Fil A for lunch today because, yum. Landon saw the car in front of us was from Florida (we have been talking about Irma today) and he declared we were paying for their meal - and I agreed. But how do you pay for the car in front of you? You run toward their window with a debit card in hand and scare the mess out of them!" After getting over his initial state of shock, the man was moved by their unexpected random act of kindness. Tara told her followers that she and her son were quite touched as well, writing: "Landon and I both had tears in our eyes from how appreciative he was." After chatting for a few minutes, the Floridian revealed that he was, in fact, escaping the path of the hurricane! Tara continued: "The man has left his home in Miami and was passing through to go stay with family in Birmingham. I told him we hoped he returned to his house untouched and that we'd keep him in our thoughts." Tara and Landon's sweet act of kindness probably didn't cost a fortune, but it was a small gesture to show the man how much people cared. While many lives have been shattered by the recent hurricanes, these tragic events have brought out the best in us as humans.
