The low tax burden of Taiwan's wealthy and their distaste for paying taxes have been magnified in the recent debate over a proposed capital gains tax. Hon Hai Group Chairman Terry Gou tried to change that image when he suggested Wednesday that the government impose higher taxes on Taiwan's wealthiest 300 people but drop the capital gains tax plan. Reaction to the plan among some of Taiwan's wealthiest entrepreneurs a day later was decidedly mixed.
