Middleagespread: Imaging India 1947-2004
By Various Photographers
This catalogue curiously titled middleagespread suggests that the collection of black and white photographs, which were taken between 1947 and 2004, "visualises the spread of the aging body politic of India."This extraordinary collection of pictures, shot by 11 photographers — Henri Cartier-Bresson, R.D. Chopra, S. Paul, Kishor Parekh, Raghu Rai, Ram Rahman, Sheba Chhachhi, Dayanita Singh, Rajesh Vora, Ketaki Sheth and Swapan Parekh. Many of the photographs are familiar but virtually every one of them is arresting, chosen in a thematic manner, one that lends each photographer's work the character of a short pictorial essay.
