Shot in 1989 - This video is of a microlight aircraft flying out of a farm airstrip near to Preston. The flight was recorded on VHS tape. The turn point was the Bay between Arnside and Grange Over Sands. En-route the city of Lancaster can be seen, including the 150 ft memorial in Williamson Park, which was completed in 1909, in memory of Lord Ashton's wife. The building of it provided employment to the unemployed cotton weavers of this city who had lost their incomes due to a shortage of imported cotton. The shortage is said to have been compounded by the American Civil War, which ended in 1865. To the west can be seen the river Lune as it bends and twists its way to the open waters of Morecambe Bay. A high pressure system prevailed on this day so the wind did not blow. In the evening as the sun began to set the air was cool, calm and benevolent reflecting its mood on the autumn skyline. The original VHS tape has unfortunately degraded.
