I put some EL34's in my Mark V to see if I can replicate a more "plexi" type tone with this amp. I like it. I didn't try for a brown sound..yet. I just plugged my Les Paul Traditional (stock) in direct and gave it a shot. Its tough not to play AC/DC riffs with this set up….very tough. It has an incredible rhythm tone that is easy and fun to play... big and chunky. Being a Boogie however, I still find it smoother in the mids than an old Marshall, not enough grit in the mid sweep…my opinion.
I mic'd it with a Sure SM57 and put that threw my new Zoom R16….first time Ive used it. The amp settings are shown exactly for each set of riffs. The only thing I adjusted was the gain, except for the last Ozzy riff because the bass will go 'Flubby' if its not brought down as the gain is turned up. The amp is on Channel 2 with the Mark I setting and the Thick switch is engaged. The Graph EQ is not being used.
Excuse the playing, it was early in the morning and I had the house to myself. Also the new strings on my Les Paul we not sitting and it kept slipping out of tune a bit. I'll try another video after I play with this amp for a while and see if i can get a more "brown" sound from it. Thanks.
