Dr. Sivak, Director of Behavioral Health, The Villages Health, discusses the benefits of both mindfulness and medication, and whether one can replace the other. This video is just one of many helpful health and wellness videos you can find at http://bit.ly/2j1jiqn
"Can mindfulness ever replace medication? In many situations, yes, absolutely you could. In many situations, no. Sometimes we're still going to need our modern psychopharmacology to help out with things."
Sivak goes on to explain that it depends on the situation. If a patient is motivated to get well and manage their anxiety through mindfulness-based therapy, then mindfulness may be the way to go. On the other hand, if the patient has tried meditation techniques, and is still anxious, irritable or edgy, then they should seek the help of a psychiatrist for medication.
Sivak states that the same goes with people with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) -mindfulness can be beneficial. But again, it depends on the situation. Some people want medication.
