Track 15 'Noyana' (Xhosa) by the African Methodist Choir led by Mara Louw from the 2009 album 'African Hymns Mara Louw & The African Methodist Choir'. Hymns are sung in both Sotho and Xhosa languages. This song is the South African National Anthem. The album contains several traditional and popular songs presented by the rich voices of the African Methodist Choir, which paints a picture of Southern African history, from the 1800s to the present day. The hymns are sung a capella, on occasion with added handclaps, stamps, single drums, and 'iBeat," a local innovation consisting of a leather pad struck with the hand. They were recorded in the beautiful Loreto Convent Chapel in Pretoria, live with the passion they deserve. Mara is a long-standing celebrity singer and actress in South Africa and internationally, a TV personality, as well as an activist who played a significant role in the democratisation of the country. A devout Methodist herself, the presentation of hymns of the church has long been a dream of hers. The choir members were selected from congregation members within not only the Soweto Methodist Church, but neighbouring churches, to represent the traditional approach to these hymns.
