A one Megawatt d.c. motor powers this double-ended, sixty feet diameter, 47 tonne machine. It was built to simulate the high G forces generated when fast jets turn. Since 1955 it has been used for pilot training, research and development and is still going strong today. This short clip is a chamber view of a 10G test spin, part of the daily test procedure before manned experiments take place. The machine was designed for a maximum of 30G, but is limited to 9G today. The test spin ensures various overspeed devices are operating correctly.
