A short look at the making of The Birds: A Modern Adaptation of Aristophanes' Comedy by Yvette Nolan at the University of Regina. Featuring: Taylor Wirll (Designer), Tyler Toppings (Actor), Eric Taylor (Actor), and Gabrielle Dufresne (Actor) As well as Abbey Thiessen as Crow, Kyle Morhart as Vulture, and Laura Abramsen as Duck Beginning on March 13th the University of Regina proudly presents The Birds (A modern adaptation of Aristophanes' comedy) by Yvette Nolan at the University Theatre, Riddell Centre. The production runs from March 13th to 16th at 7:30 p.m. One of the oldest Greek comedies (414 B.C.), The Birds has always been considered a biting and brilliant political satire. It speaks of social systems that fail those that they are meant to serve and the utopian desire that something better may be just around the corner. It also considers the impossibility of achieving such an ideal and takes a hard look at the fall out -- the dystopia - that surrounds us. At nearly 2400 years old this play still rings true today. This contemporary adaptation by award winning playwright Yvette Nolan takes a very Canadian look at the classic text. This production, directed by Kenn McLeod, a Regina born / international director and physical theatre performer, promises to be an energetic and visually stunning tour de force -- and a potent and satiric political commentary. With an eye to the current Canadian political and social climate, this play is about how we treat our fellow inhabitants on this earth and, in doing so, how we treat ourselves. Like birds of a feather, we're all in this together. Tickets are $15.00 for Adults, $10.00 for Students/Seniors, University of Regina students free with valid student identification.
