M16 AR15 5.56 NATO is more Lethal than the AK47 7.62 X 39mm Despite outward appearances the M16 or AR15 round, the 5.56 X 45 mm is more lethal than the AK47 round, the 7.62 X 39mm. The AK47 round, the 7.62 X 39mm is ballistically superior to the M16 or AR15 round, the 5.56 X 45 mm and that is why many think the AK47 round, the 7.62 X 39mm is more lethal. But there are other factors at work that make the M16 or AR15 round, the 5.56 X 45 mm more lethal. Don’t think for a minute that NATO did not adopt the M16 or AR15 round, the 5.56 X 45 mm for very good reasons. The high velocity of the M16 or AR15 round, the 5.56 X 45 mm causes far more cellular death by rupturing cells in the body like time balloons. This is not ready apparent because it will appear the wound in confined to a particular area. After several days it will become apparent that a large portion around the wound channel is dead tissue due to the high velocity of the M16 or AR15 round, the 5.56 X 45 mm exploding cells like tiny balloons. Furthermore, the M16 or AR15 round, the 5.56 X 45 mm creates an excavating wound, whereby it pulls out more tissue through the exit hole from a vacuum in the wound channel by the high velocity. The damage to human tissue was first observed on a widespread basis in WWI when wounds of soldiers appeared to be poisoned. It was later learned that bullet projectile velocities over 2000 fps created far more cellular destruction. The M16 or AR15 round, the 5.56 X 45 mm will maintain a velocity well over 2000 fps well past 200 yards. The AK47 round, the 7.62 X 39mm in some cases is barely over 2000 fps at the muzzle is some ammo that is not loaded to spec. Even AK47 round, the 7.62 X 39mm ammo loaded to spec will barely be over 2000 fps at 75 yards. NATO should actually be using the 6.5 Grendel round, which is readily adaptable to the AR platform. The 6.5 Grendel round is a 6.5 X 39 mm and will maintain velocities well over 2000 fps past 350 yards.
