One thing he hasn’t mastered is being a decent human being, so he left his family behind to do whatever Rick does. His daughter, Beth, blames her mother for Rick’s departure and her own shortcomings. For one, she became a horse surgeon instead of a real surgeon and she got knocked up by her prom date, Jerry Smith. Together with her insecure husband, they have two kids -- the socially conscious Summer and natural sidekick, Morty. After years apart, Rick re-enters Beth’s life and sets up shop in the family’s garage, much to Jerry’s displeasure. For the past semester, Rick has been pulling Morty from school to take him on misadventures across the universe and smuggle things up his butt.
