New Delhi: With the term of CBI Director Alok Verma coming to an end on February 1, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a shortlist of 17 persons to be considered for the post. Kerala state police chief Loknath Behera has been included in the list. The IPS officers of 1983, ’ 84 and ’ 85 batches have been included in the list which has been prepared considering their seniority and probe efficiency. Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik of 1985 batch is also included in the list. The shortlist has been sent to Department of Personnel and Training, Vigilance Commissioner and Intelligence Bureau. The final decision will be taken on the basis of recommendations of a search committee which include Prime Minister as chairperson and Chief Justice of India and the Leader of Opposition. Alok Verma, who was sent on leave in connection with a bribery case, had approached the Supreme Court. SC has postponed the hearing of the case. NIA DGP YC Modi, who had provided clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Gujarat riot case is also included in the list. The shortlist was prepared from an earlier 34 member list.
