The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator. About 20 people – most of them UW physics graduate and undergraduate students, but with a few local high school students as well – took about 50 hours to assemble the diminutive replica using Legos. Building the model presents a great opportunity to broaden public interest in science and to explain, in lay terms, “the problems we are trying to attack,” said Shih-Chieh Hsu, UW assistant professor of physics.
