Lauren Faust talks about her feelings of inadequacy and artistic struggles after leaving MLP, including the sense that her departure made little difference to its perceived quality. I think that speaks to the foundation she built, especially the staff she hand picked and in some cases mentored. I don't doubt it would be even better if Hasbro had given her more creative freedom instead of driving her away, especially since they've taken the show in the direction she wanted all along (e.g. more adventure, more action, slightly edgier). "We love your work!" I wonder if that guy watches Wander Over Yonder at all. Because no one else seems to be. This spectacle caused a mini-fandom drama backlash by those who thought she was just throwing a pity party for herself, although most of them probably read a summary instead of watching the video. She was doubtlessly fishing for compliments, but judging from previous interviews, panels, and old drawings, Faust always struck me as harshly self critical and thinking she was performing a Sisyphean task that no one but her cared about and was always overjoyed that people actually appreciated her work. There were many past cons where she became so emotional it seemed as if she were about to burst into tears. It sucks that MLP was her lifetime dream come true and she felt like she had to give it up, but it's hard to feel too sorry for her. She's directing a big budget movie that's right up her alley (Medusa), she got to work with her husband on Wander Over Yonder, and she's treated like a rock star whenever she goes to a con.
