Sometimes things don't go according to plan. This was planned as a 4-day, apx. 40-mile loop hike, solo backpacking in an area of the Bob Marshall Wilderness known as the “Lake District.” This route presents a ‘roller coaster’ of elevation gain and loss which would have been considerable; however, due to a nagging knee injury, I decided to bail on the second day and thus, actually hiked 30 miles over 3 days with a total elevation gain of about 5000 feet and a total pack weight of 27.5 lbs. The scenery was magnificent and I can’t wait for the opportunity to go back and try this loop again sometime.
