Korea urges Japan to retract territorial claims to Dokdo

정부 "일본 독도영유권 주장에 개탄, 즉각 철회 촉구" Korea's foreign ministry has urged the Japanese government to retract its territorial claims to Korea's easternmost islets of Dokdo,… calling it a deplorable act. Citing the fresh claims in Tokyo's annual diplomatic report, the ministry's spokesperson reiterated that the Dokdo islets are part of Korea both historically and geographically. The Korean government is expected to lodge a protest with Tokyo,… and will summon an official from the Japanese Embassy later today. Seoul said Japan should work to improve bilateral relations in the future. Japan's repeated territorial claims over Dokdo has long been a thorny issue between the neighboring countries and major hurdle for improving bilateral ties.
