From interrogation to conversation: for the past year I interviewed over 100 candidates as a part of building the new Berlin office. And I realised something, people are at their best when they don’t feel under (negative) pressure. The way I lived some interviews in the past felt like a scene from Pulp Fiction where Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield points their guns at me: that wasn’t the interviews where I performed the best. During the interviews I conduct I try to make the session as relaxed as possible, keeping an eye on how the candidate is reacting to the flow of the interview and make sure that they feel that we are working together rather than them trying to prove something to me.
Alaeddine Manai
Aladdin is not the Disney movie character, he didn’t fly on a flying carpet from Tunisia where he was born to Berlin where he lives, nor does he have a wonder lamp to solve problems as an Engineering Manager. In the workplace you’d find him pushing for software quality and design, looking for a good challenge or trying to bring people together. In the wilderness, you’d find him tinkering, playing video games, enjoying a night out or trying new experiences. He joined Klarna in March 2018 as one of the first 20 employees in the Berlin site, starting at the Merchant Financial Reporting Team and moving to the Merchant Insights team afterwards.
