It is the home of the singer Daniel O'Donnell. The area is very rugged, with lovely thatched cottages, magnificent coastal scenery and many beaches. Just off the coast is Cruit Island, which is a European-designated "Special Area of Conservation" and joined to the mainland by a bridge.
