Kenya is facing tough days ahead as the full implications of the United State's withdrawal from Iran's nuclear deal begin to show. The tea sub sector could take a massive hit, because Iran is a major buyer of Kenya's tea.
In the fresh sanctions against Iran, the US has given a six month notice for all companies doing business in America to stop trading with Iran. This will hit Kenyan tea exporters as there is currently 120 million shillings owed to local traders that is stuck in Iran, and it is unlikely to be released soon as banks show reluctance to deal with Iran, following the US directive.
