On October 7, 2016 we rushed Juliana back to the hospital, where she had been treated for months, and discovered she had a lung infection which caused her to have a breathing tube placed in her little body. She had the breathing tube in for a about a week. I wasn't able to hear her sweet voice for all that time. I remember the day when they took the breathing tube out and I heard her voice again. It was beyond amazing.
I used to sing, to Juliana, over the years "You are my sunshine, my little sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray." She lit up our entire family. Her charisma, smile, laugh, positive attitude and courage touched all of us in a very special way. On October 16, 2016 while (we thought) Juliana was recovering from an infection while fighting cancer for the EIGHTH TIME I sang the song to her again. She just wanted to get better.
She seemed to be making steady progress and was released from the hospital on October 21, 2016 and was scheduled to come back to the hospital on October 26, 2016 for new cancer treatment. She was very groggy and we were told, by the hospital staff, that it was because of the pain medication she was taking at the time. She passed away less than sixty-five hours later, on October 24, 2016, at the age of FOURTEEN. As a parent you NEVER "get over it."
